The past was always the right time

I have caught myself saying over the years things like, “well that didn’t happen at a very good time”! I don’t know if you have ever done that? Wondering if only that birth had happened a little sooner or later you would have been able to manage things better. If only that sickness had come along during the summer when your kids were already out of school.

I know for me, the idea that my past somehow was not in line with what had to have been planned for me keeps me from realizing my potential future. When we allow the lies of satan to convince us that somehow our past was not in God’s plans, we can then convince ourselves that our future is chaotic and uncertain. While I do believe in free will I still believe that God works things out even through our stupidity. This morning I was reading in John 6 where Jesus was at a feast speaking and He was speaking to the crowd with the religious leaders standing by. Then there is this interesting point that the author of John makes in verse 30,

“So they were seeking to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.” –John 6:30, ESV–

In this verse we see the desire of the religious leaders to arrest Jesus, but something held them back. What could have held them back form this desire? After all, Jesus was destroying everything they had worked towards, having this authoritarian priesthood over the people. Folks, the point is that Jesus’ hour had not yet come. Scripture tells us that “…all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” (Rom 8:28 KJV), and in this promise we must trust that God always navigates what reveals His honor and glory. As hard as this is to trust when we look back on our past and think that awful lie of satan, “If only things had gone differently?”. No, saint, things went just as planned. Our future is not chaotic, our future is not uncertain for those who trust and look to Christ. He has it all happening at the right time. Your past happened at the right time, and our future will happen at the right time as well. Trust in Him.
